Becoming a mum at 37 through IVF | @the_stork_and_i on Mums Will Talk

“At 37 I was single and worried I might miss out on motherhood altogether which was something I just didn’t want to consider.

I’d always presumed I’d meet a partner, get married and have children. It’s what happens in the movies and the fairytales we were read as children and that’s what I presumed would happen for me.

After much soul searching I realised this was not going to happen for me so I decided to try for a baby on my own using donor conception.

I was worried what people would think, would I be able to cope and what the impact would be on my child of being donor conceived. But I worked through all that and decided it was the best path to parenthood for me.

I had one round of IVF and on my second embryo transfer I got pregnant with my now 2 year old daughter.

It took me a long time to decide if this was the right route to becoming a mum for me, but it is honestly the best decision I have ever made.

I don’t think of myself parenting on my own. I’ve not got a romantic partner but I am surrounded by an entire village of support. My daughter has so many amazing male role models I don’t feel like she is missing out at all.

I now support women in the same situation as I was on their options to become a mum.” – @the_stork_and_i
