My Struggle with Pressures of Breastfeeding | Mums Will Talk

MUMS WILL TALK x #WorldBreastFeedingWeek

“I remember really wanting to breast feed, and media and other mothers made it look so easy.

I worked in a cafe whilst pregnant and glanced over at mothers feeding their newborns whilst drinking their coffee, smiling at their baby, making it look like a walk in the park. Little did I know that was not the case at all.

It was my first night at home with our 1st born, I was alone as my husband had been in a motorcycle accident the day she was born and was still in hospital. Our daughter had learnt to latch on perfectly (had many midwifes fondle my boobs to make sure) so why was she letting go after 1 suck and screaming at me? I spent all night crying as she’s crying. My nipples were bleeding & her sucking was extremely painful. I felt like I had failed already.

I rang midwife in the morning so she can come see what I was doing wrong, turned out nothing! I was producing hardly any milk! I reluctantly put her on formula and tried to express in the meantime but still produced nothing!

Looking back I put too much pressure on myself to be the perfect mum and do everything by the book. Not everything works out as you plan…” – Adele
